April 2026 Sean Hayhurst Memorial Foundation BLOG

Hello and welcome to the first monthly Blog for the Sean Hayhurst Memorial Foundation. We established this foundation to recognize our son Sean’s legacy of giving to those less fortunate, and those in need. There are no paid employees, and every penny donated goes to charity, or supporting future events raising funds for future donations.  

He believed in people, and leaving everything a little better than you find it. He had a knack for seeing the very best in people, regardless of the circumstances. He was unbelievable at talking with anyone about any subject and usually providing a different perspective than most of his conversationalists.  

In honor of his giving nature, the Foundation has raised more than $50,000 for donation to a variety of charities and causes that Sean championed so passionately. Charities like Folds of Honor, Wreaths Across America, Northwestern North Carolina Hurricane Relief, The Corporal Mark Goyet Memorial Foundation, Positive Guidance 30, and The V Foundation to name a few that was not already identified in our website. 

Sean enjoyed watching sports and golfing with his family and friends. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, Duke basketball and any West Virginia sporting event. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and any outdoor activity. This is why the Foundations primary fund-raising efforts are the golf tournaments hosted at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Moyock North Carolina (April) and Glenville Golf Club in Glenville West Virginia (August).   

As we prepare for our next event at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Moyock NC, we are reminded of how important it is to give back to our community and those in need. The Golf outings offer unique challenging opportunities to improve your score while truly enjoying the event. You don’t have to be a golfer to participate. there are volunteer opportunities, raffles you can register for, hole sponsorships and tax-free donations (gift prizes or funds) that would provide significant support to the Foundation and charities nationwide.   

Seeing the impact that the Foundation is having supporting incredible causes is among the most rewarding feelings that I have ever experienced! Just yesterday we received a thank you letter from St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital that read “The generosity of the Sean Hayhurst Memorial Foundation is making a difference in the lives of children and families at St. Judes Children Research Hospital. On behalf of all of us here at St Jude, we are deeply grateful that you continue to support our mission: Finding cures. Saving Children”.  “The contributions of the Sean Hayhurst memorial Foundation help provide the tools and technology for some of the brightest minds in science and medicine to power the engine of discovery at St. Jude”. It is an awesome feeling to hear back from the organizations that we support.  

We have been blessed by the friends, organizations and community that has supported so well over the last two years. You have truly helped us make a difference with our donations while preserving Sean’s legacy with the support we have provided charities and those in need.
